A Drew County man convicted of first-degree murder in the shooting death of another man failed to convince the Arkansas Court of Appeals that he was justified in using deadly physical force.
Jarion Robinson, 24, was sentenced to 73 years in prison after a jury found him guilty of first-degree murder, second-degree battery and committing a terroristic act in the shooting death of J’Kyrom Hines, who was shot four times through the window of his parked car.
Witnesses identified Robinson as the person who did the shooting and after initially denying that, he admitted shooting Hines because he knew Hines was reaching for a gun. He said he shot Hines two or three times and “noticed he had a gun” when Hines gun dropped to the ground.
After the state presented its case, Robinson’s attorney asked for a directed verdict saying the state did not prove that Robinson’s purpose was to cause the death of Hines but did not identify any specific deficiencies in the state’s case to back up that claim.
Robinson is serving his sentence at the Grimes Unit in Newport and will be eligible to apply for parole in January 2060.
