The Sheridan School District has scheduled a special election for November 18, 2025, asking voters to approve a 9-year extension of the district’s current millage rate to help fund major school improvements.
The district has qualified for $11.5 million in state partnership funding to construct a new East End Elementary School adjacent to East End Middle School. To secure these funds, the district must generate its local share of the project cost, which requires voter approval of the millage extension.
School officials stress that the proposal will not increase the current tax rate of 36.0 mills, which will remain the same regardless of the election outcome.
If approved, the extension would fund:
-
Construction of a new East End Elementary School, including a safe room to serve both elementary and middle school students.
-
A multi-use covered practice pavilion in Sheridan for athletics, band, JROTC, field days, and other activities.
-
Districtwide safety upgrades, including visible campus signage and camera enhancements at Sheridan Elementary School.
-
Districtwide renovations, including bathroom, flooring, and lighting improvements.
According to the district, a “yes” vote would allow the projects to move forward without raising taxes, while a “no” vote would maintain the current millage rate but leave the projects unfunded.
