A Pine Bluff man has been acquitted of all charges related to a deadly 2023 shooting at Martin Luther King Jr. Park.
A Jefferson County jury found 22-year-old Deshawn Chapman not guilty on a charge of first-degree murder, four counts of first-degree battery, and three counts of committing a terroristic act. The verdict was delivered following a hearing last week in the courtroom of Judge Alex Guynn.
Chapman was arrested in May 2023 after being accused of participating in a shooting that resulted in the death of a 16-year-old male and injuries to four others. According to court documents, Chapman was arrested as an accomplice in the case.
The not-guilty verdict closes a chapter on a case that drew significant attention within the Pine Bluff community. Prosecutors had alleged Chapman’s involvement in the shooting, but jurors ultimately determined there was insufficient evidence to convict.
