UPDATE: 2:10 PM

A 47-year-old Pine Bluff man has been arrested for Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer following an incident Thursday morning.  

Shortly before 11:00 a.m. Officers responded to an address in the 600 block of west 20th Ave in reference to a disturbance.

The patrol officer met with the caller who reported a man had been in his yard acting strangely and gave a description and direction of travel.  

The officer found Samuel Wilson Jr a short distance away wearing clothing that matched the description.  

As the officer approached, they could see Mr. Wilson was holding a pistol in his hand. When the officer started to make contact with the man he pointed the gun at the officer before they got out of their patrol car.  Mr. Wilson then fled the area on foot. After he was out of sight a single gunshot was heard.  

Officers of the Pine Bluff Police Department and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area and conducted a search.  Mr. Wilson was quickly located and taken into custody.

At this time no gun has been recovered.  

Mr. Wilson has been arrested and booked on charges of Aggravated Assault upon a Certified Law Enforcement Officer and Possession of a Firearm by Certain Person.

The motive behind Mr. Wilson is unknown. He was unable to be interviewed due to being under the influence.  

Mr. Wilson will have an expected probable cause hearing within the next day or two.

The officer was not injured during the incident.

The Pine Bluff Police Department is in the early stages of an investigation after a suspect shot at an officer Thursday morning.

Pine Bluff Police Chief Lloyd Franklin, Sr. told Deltaplex News that the shooting happened in the area of 18th and Beech after an officer spotted a male walking with a weapon.

Franklin said the officer approached the male, then described what happened next:

Franklin stated that the officer was not struck, and no one was injured during the incident.

A suspect has been apprehended but no name has been released at this time.
