Three people were killed in a two-vehicle accident in Ashley County Wednesday morning.

According to a preliminary report, a 2015 Kia Sportage driven by Jolita Bowles, 57, of Crossett was eastbound on U.S. Highway 82 at the Highway 82 Bypass and attempting to merge onto the bypass by making a slight left turn, but turned into the path of a 1995 Freightliner tractor-trailer that was westbound at the time.

The two vehicles collided head-on in the westbound lane.

Bowles and two passengers in her car, Kristy Bowles, 39, of Hamburg, and an unidentified minor were all pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.

The accident was reported at 8:25 a.m. and the deaths bring to 107 the number of people killed on the state’s highways so far this year.
