A $10,000 bond was set Monday for a Malvern man accused of dropping a bag of suspected drugs while resisting arrest Saturday.

Pine Bluff District John Kearney set the bond after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge Jermaine Jones, 45, with possession of a controlled substance.

Reading from an affidavit from Arkansas State Trooper Darryl Hinton, Deputy Prosecutor Lisa McGriff said on Saturday, Hinton was patrolling U.S. Highway 65-B when he saw a blue Ford Explorer with an expired license plate. The license had expired in 2020 and Hinton activated his emergency lights and the vehicle, driven by Jones, pulled over on a vacant lot at Highway 65-B and Larch Street.

McGriff said Hinton called for assistance, other troopers arrived, and Jones was taken into custody. The white powder substance in the bag weighed .03 grams.

She said Jones has a prior felony conviction and served prison time.

He was also charged with misdemeanor resisting arrest, tampering with physical evidence, no proof of vehicle registration or insurance, expired tags, no seatbelt, and failure to signal.
