The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) men’s golf team achieved a significant milestone by winning the 2025 PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship at Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wisconsin. This victory marks their first HBCU National Championship in men’s golf, setting a new standard for Golden Lions athletics.

On the final day, characterized by challenging weather conditions, the Golden Lions finished with rounds of +23 over par (291, 280, and 311), culminating in a three-day team total of 882. UAPB Head Coach Roger Totten, a five-time Coach of the Year, praised his team’s hard work and dedication throughout the season. He emphasized how this victory enhances the university’s visibility and showcases the talent present in HBCU golf. Totten, who has previously led UAPB to two SWAC championships, has fostered a culture of resilience and excellence within the program.

“This is a monumental achievement for our program,” said Totten, “These young men have worked incredibly hard and grown so much over the season. To see their dedication rewarded with a national championship on such a big stage is phenomenal. This victory gives our program and our university tremendous national visibility, and it showcases the caliber of talent in HBCU golf. I couldn’t be prouder of this team.”

Jules De Reu, Juan Melida, and Timur Alalin also secured top positions, contributing to the team’s success. Freshman Jonathan Baumann delivered consistent performances, finishing 28th.

Coach Totten expressed gratitude to the UAPB community, acknowledging the support from the Athletic Director, administration, supporters, and the Pine Bluff community, attributing the victory to collective efforts.
