Three people were killed and a fourth injured in a two-vehicle accident in Hot Springs Saturday afternoon.

According to a preliminary report, Fidel Diaz, 62, of Mexico was southbound on U.S. 270 at its intersection with Blacksnake Road in a 2008 Chevrolet and failed to stop at a stop sign with the vehicle traveling into the path of a 2023 Toyota that was westbound on U.S. 270 at the intersection of Blacksnake Road.

The front of the Toyota hit the left side of the Chevrolet, killing Diaz and two passengers in his car, Lizbeth Diaz, 19, and Octavio Cruz, 57, also of Mexico. A minor passenger that was in the vehicle was injured and taken to a hospital.

The three deaths bring to 260 the number of people killed on the state’s highways so far this year.
