The Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division is investigating an officer-involved shooting early Sunday morning in Woodruff County that left a man dead.
According to the Arkansas State Police, the shooting occurred around 4:13 a.m. Sunday, March 15, when deputies with the Woodruff County Sheriff’s Office responded to a disturbance at a residence in the 1100 block of White Drive in Augusta.
Deputies were assisting officers with the Augusta Police Department when a Woodruff County deputy discharged his weapon during the incident, striking a suspect identified as 45-year-old Randy Ealy of Franklin.
Ealy died at the scene.
Authorities said no law enforcement officers were injured during the incident.
Ealy’s body will be transported to the Arkansas State Crime Lab, where officials will determine the cause and manner of death.
Special agents with the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division will compile an investigative file that will be submitted to the Woodruff County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, which will determine whether the use of deadly force was consistent with Arkansas law.
The investigation remains ongoing.
