UAPB Splits Opening Day Doubleheader with Lindenwood

The UAPB Golden Lions opened the 2026 season with a split against Lindenwood Lions on Opening Day at the Torii Hunter Baseball Complex, falling in the opener before rallying for an 8-6 victory in game two.

In the first game, UAPB struggled to find consistent offensive rhythm and managed four hits in the contest. Zach Wieder led the way at the plate, going 2-for-3. Dane Small added a hit, while Blake Coleman delivered a double and later scored the Golden Lions’ lone run.

Despite the loss, UAPB’s pitching staff showed early-season promise. Jalen Porter started and struck out seven over four innings, allowing two runs while consistently attacking the strike zone. Jack Hasten followed with 3.2 innings and three strikeouts, and Spencer Watson added two strikeouts in one inning of relief. The Golden Lions combined for 12 strikeouts in the opener.

UAPB responded in game two with a balanced offensive effort, collecting 12 hits in the 8-6 win.

Joe Adams sparked the offense with a 4-for-5 performance, driving in two runs and adding a triple. Coleman continued his strong day at the plate with a home run, finishing with two RBIs and two runs scored. Lazaro Alvarado went 2-for-5 with a run scored, while Zyon Hamilton contributed an RBI, a walk and a run scored. Trinidad de la Garza and Matt Dworsky also recorded hits to help sustain scoring opportunities.

On the mound, Joe King worked four innings and struck out six before Reagan James delivered a dominant relief appearance. James pitched five innings, struck out eight and allowed just one earned run to secure the win. UAPB pitchers totaled 14 strikeouts in the nightcap.

With the split, the Golden Lions move to 1-1 on the young season, showing resilience after the opening loss and finishing the day with a complete performance highlighted by timely hitting and strong pitching.
