UAPB Dominates Southern 40-21

Pine Bluff, AR–The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff put together one of its most complete performances of the season Saturday afternoon, cruising to a 40–21 victory over Southern University at Simmons Bank Field.
The Golden Lions (3–5, 2–3 SWAC) controlled the game from start to finish, fueled by a balanced offensive attack and a stingy defense that limited the Jaguars to just 74 rushing yards.
Head Coach Alonzo Hampton had this to say about the win:
Quarterback Christian Peters led the charge, completing 21 of 32 passes for 231 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. Peters also showcased his mobility, adding 43 rushing yards and a score on the ground. Running back Jaylen Jennings carried 17 times for 99 yards and a touchdown, while wide receiver Ellis Stewart provided the spark through the air with four catches for 83 yards and two touchdowns.
UAPB struck early, taking a 7–0 lead in the first quarter before stretching the margin to 24–7 by halftime. The Golden Lions extended their advantage to 38–7 midway through the third quarter before Southern (1–8, 0–5 SWAC) added a pair of late touchdowns.
Defensively, UAPB’s front line set the tone, holding the Jaguars in check and forcing two turnovers that led directly to 14 points. Linebacker Danarius Hilliard led the defense with 10 tackles and two tackles for loss.
The Golden Lions outgained Southern 389–296 in total yards and dominated time of possession, holding the ball for more than 35 minutes.
The victory snapped a two-game skid for UAPB and provided a much-needed boost heading into the final stretch of the season. The Golden Lions will look to build on the momentum when they return to action next week, hosting Florida A&M University. Kick-off is scheduled for 2p.m. with live coverage on Deltaplex Radio’s 99.3fm The Beat presented by Central Maloney Inc.
