University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff head baseball coach Logan Stout has announced the hiring of Brad Powell as the Golden Lions’ new pitching coach.

Powell joins UAPB after a successful four-year tenure at Northwest Florida State College, where he helped restore the Raiders’ national prominence. In 2025, his pitching staff guided the program to its first NJCAA World Series appearance in nine years. Under his leadership, the Raiders ranked 16th nationally in fewest hits allowed, 14th in ERA, and 15th in WHIP. His ace, Mack Estrada, earned Panhandle Conference Pitcher of the Year honors — the first Raider to do so since 2019 — and was drafted in the 10th round by the New York Yankees. Three other pitchers from his staff committed to Division I programs: Brock Tapper (Troy), Colin Linder (Arizona State), and Parker Dillhoff (UL-Lafayette).

Powell’s first season with Northwest Florida set a school record for strikeouts (462) while leading the Panhandle Conference in strikeouts per nine innings. The team ranked 15th nationally in strikeouts and 13th in fewest walks allowed. That year, six pitchers moved on to Division I programs, including Jake Madden (Alabama), Will Cannon (Auburn), and Joel Sarver (Charlotte). Madden went on to become the second-highest MLB Draft pick in Raider history, selected 118th overall by the Los Angeles Angels.

In his second year, Powell’s staff ranked fourth in strikeouts within the Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) and posted the third-best team ERA (4.46) in the conference. Another six pitchers advanced to Division I baseball, including Kyson Witherspoon (Oklahoma) and Gavin Black (Mississippi State).

Before Northwest Florida, Powell spent two seasons at Iowa Western Community College as Director of Baseball Operations, Assistant Pitching Coach, and Catchers Coach. The Reivers posted a 70-14 record during that span, with three catchers moving on to Division I programs.

Powell also spent three years at Doane University as Recruiting Coordinator and Catchers Coach, where the Tigers broke several offensive records, including single-season doubles and home runs, while improving defensive performance behind the plate.

His summer league experience includes serving as hitting coach for the Quincy Gems, where the team broke the Prospect League home run record with 106 in 60 games, and as a pitching coach for the Liberal BeeJays, whose staff led the league in ERA and strikeouts en route to the team’s first league title since 1999.

As a player, Powell pitched for McCook Community College and Doane University, ranking among the team leaders in ERA and opponent batting average. He also competed for the Duluth Huskies in the Northwoods League.

A native of Palmyra, Nebraska, Powell graduated from Doane in 2016 with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies, focusing on Physical Education and History. He brings a wealth of experience in pitcher development, analytics, and recruiting to the Golden Lions program.
