PINE BLUFF, Ark. — In a hard-fought matchup on Wednesday evening, the Shorter College Hawks emerged victorious over the Southeast Arkansas Sharks, handing the SEARK men’s basketball squad a 75-69 setback at H.O. Clemmons Arena.
The loss marks a tough test for the Sharks as they battle through the early portion of the NJCAA season. Southeast Arkansas fell behind early and struggled to find consistent offensive rhythm against a disciplined Shorter defense.
Shorter College set the tone from the outset, using aggressive ball pressure and efficient shooting to build an early lead. The Hawks converted on multiple opportunities inside the paint and from beyond the arc, forcing the Sharks into contested shots and turnovers.
SEARK fought to stay within striking distance in the first half, but key mistakes and missed looks hindered any sustained comeback efforts. By halftime, Shorter had established a clear edge in scoring and defensive stops leading 32-27.
On the Sharks’ side, several players battled hard — showing hustle on the boards and commitment on defense — but the offense never fully clicked. The team’s final scoring line reflected a gritty effort that ultimately wasn’t enough to close the gap against a well-executed Shorter game plan.
The Sharks were led in scoring by Lavion Owens with 20 points, shooting 7-10 from the field,, and 6-7 from 3pt land. Amir Rosa chipped in 11 points and 5 rebounds in the loss.
The Sharks return to action Saturday, January 17, on the road at South Arkansas College with tip off scheduled for 3pm.
