It took just one game for the Southeast Arkansas College men’s basketball team to make history.
The Sharks shattered their single-game scoring record Tuesday night, defeating Community Christian College of Lafayette, Louisiana, 109-72 at H.O. Clemmons Arena.
The victory gave SEARK (1-0) a fast start to its second season as a program. The Sharks topped 100 points twice last year but never scored more than 105. They surpassed that mark with 1:31 left to play Tuesday.
Sophomore forward Lavion Owens, a transfer from South Arkansas College, led all scorers with 24 points, including 18 in the first half. He also hit three of SEARK’s nine 3-pointers.
Four other Sharks scored in double figures: Dominick Baptiste (20 points), Amir Rosa (17), Jordan Allen (13), and Andre Barnes (10). In total, 13 of SEARK’s 15 players contributed at least two points.
Community Christian briefly led after a 3-pointer by Donovan Lightell, but SEARK quickly responded with a 9-0 run and never trailed again. The Sharks built a commanding 59-33 lead by halftime, fueled by a 13-0 stretch midway through the first half.
Lightell finished with 20 points for the Crusaders, while Kyle Thornton added 13 and Daniel Brusard scored 12.
The Sharks will be back in action Friday at H.O. Clemmons Arena, hosting Coahoma Community College in a doubleheader that will also feature the SEARK women’s team’s season opener.
