Lady Lions Strong in Second Half, Defeat Florida A&M 63–53 at H.O. Clemmons Arena

PINE BLUFF, Ark. — The UAPB Lady Lions turned in a resilient performance Saturday afternoon at H.O. Clemmons Arena, rallying in the second half to secure a 63–53 Southwestern Athletic Conference victory over the Florida A&M Rattlers.
After struggling to find consistent offense early, the Lady Lions trailed the Rattlers 31–22 at halftime, but emerged with renewed energy in the third quarter. Behind tenacious defense and improved shot selection, UAPB gradually chipped away at the deficit and seized control of the game.
The second half belonged to the home squad, who held Florida A&M to limited scoring and forced key turnovers that ignited transition opportunities. The Lady Lions’ balanced attack helped them pull clear in the fourth quarter, building a double-digit lead that the visitors couldn’t overcome.
Defensively, UAPB made life difficult for the Rattlers, holding them below their scoring average and protecting a lead that grew more confident with each possession. Florida A&M had shown promise early, with efficient boards and second-chance scoring keeping them competitive, but couldn’t sustain the momentum after intermission.
Jailah Pelly led the way with 23 points, Jasmine Davis scored 16 with four steals, while Khaniah Gardner posted a 12 point and 10 rebound double-double. Briontanay Marshall patroled the paint with nine rebounds and two blocked shots.
The Lady Lions’ victory improves their conference record to 3-3 as they sit in the middle of the SWAC standings. UAPB will be on the road Thursday, January 22, when they will visit the Grambling State Tigers with tip off scheduled for 6:30pm live on 99.3fm The Beat brought to you by CMI.
