Lady Lions Prepare for Road Trip to Fayetteville
Pine Bluff, AR–The UAPB Lady Lions are heading into a tough non-conference road test this Friday, November 7, when they travel to face the Arkansas Razorbacks in Fayetteville. The visit to Bud Walton Arena marks a significant moment early in the season, following their season‐opening 69-64 road win over Memphis Tigers.
That opener was a breakthrough — the Lady Lions erased a double-digit deficit entering the fourth quarter and secured their first “1-0” start since 2020. Junior guard Indiya Bowen spearheaded the comeback, scoring 29 points and hauling down nine rebounds. Meanwhile, junior Jailah Pelly contributed 23 points and 10 boards, setting a tone for the season ahead. Head Coach Erica Leak gave her thoughts on the two:
Under second-year head coach Erica Leak, the team is building mindset and momentum. They know that a trip to the Razorbacks isn’t just another game — it’s a chance to show they belong on a larger stage. Their win over Memphis gave them confidence, but this matchup will test their readiness: they’ll face a program with deeper resources and higher expectations. Coach Leak also shared her thoughts on this year’s Razorback team:
For UAPB, the key will be maintaining the intensity and composure they displayed in the comeback win: winning the rebound battle, converting free throws, and staying aggressive when the opponent turns up the pressure. If they can bring that same energy to Fayetteville, the Lady Lions can make the most of this opportunity — regardless of the final score.
Friday’s game isn’t just another mark on the schedule. It’s a chance for UAPB to prove their progress is real. Tip-off is scheduled for 10:30am with live coverage on Deltaplex Radio’s 99.3fm The Beat presented by Central Maloney.
