The Arkansas‑Pine Bluff Golden Lions dropped a heartbreaker at home, falling 20-16 to the Grambling State Tigers on Saturday at Simmons Bank Field.
From the opening quarter, UAPB came out sharp — quarterback Christian Peters connected with Ellis Stewart for a 1-yard touchdown pass to give the Golden Lions a 7-0 lead.
Grambling responded before halftime and again in the second half, taking a 14–7 lead into the fourth. With 14:39 remaining, the game was delayed due to inclement weather. When the game resumed, the Golden Lions had a first and ten on the Tigers 13 yard line, but were held to a field goal by Trey Glymph, cutting the deficit to 14–10. UAPB would force back to back turnovers and would connect on two field goals to regain a 16–14 advantage. But with 1:42 remaining, Grambling’s Tre Bradford punched in a 3-yard touchdown run, to retake the lead and ultimately the win.
UAPB Head Coach Alonzo Hampton talked about the loss:
Up next, UAPB travels to face the Bethune‑Cookman Wildcats on Saturday, October 25, 2025, in Daytona Beach (3:00 p.m. ET) as part of their SWAC slate.
Bethune-Cookman currently holds a 3-4 record (2-1 SWAC East) and has some momentum after recent wins.
