Golden Lions Fall on the Road to Prairie View A&M

UAPBFootball Drops One on the Road at Prairie View A&M - UA Pine Bluff Athletics

Prairie View, TX–The UAPB Golden Lions came up short Saturday afternoon, falling to Prairie View A&M in a tough SWAC matchup. Despite flashes of promise and several big plays, UAPB was unable to keep pace with the Panthers’ late offensive surge, ultimately dropping the contest at Panther Stadium 56-9.

Prairie View A&M set the tone early with a balanced attack, mixing quick passes with steady ground production. UAPB’s defense held strong through much of the first quarter, highlighted by an opening drive stop that resulted in a turnover on downs. But the Panthers capitalized on a UAPB coverage breakdown late in the opening period, converting it into the game’s first touchdown.

After losing starting quarterback Christian Peters to a shoulder injury early in the game, play improved in the third quarter as the Golden Lions strung together their best drive of the game, a 2 play 71 yard drive including a 56 yard touchdown run by Jalen Jennings. On the ensuing kick-off, the Golden Lions appeared to recover an onside kick attempt, only to be negated by a penalty. Head Coach Alonzo Hampton shared his thoughts on the loss:

Jalen Jennings led the Golden Lions rushing attack with 20 carries for 114 yards and one touchdown, averaging 5.7 yards per carry. Jordan Jackson hauled in two catches for 37 yards while D’Avery Robinson had three grabs for 25 yards.

Derron Moore and Quinton Sterling led the UAPB defensive effort, collecting 14 tackles each. Vaughn Highland added five tackles and 0.5 TFL and Michael Henderson also posted five tackles in the loss.

UAPB will close out the 2025 season on the road Saturday, when they will travel to Montgomery, AL to face the Alabama State Hornets. Kick-off is scheduled for 2p.m. with pregame starting at 1:30p.m. presented by Central Maloney on Deltaplex Radio’s 99.3fm The Beat.
