A Sheridan woman was killed and two people were injured in a two-vehicle accident in Malvern Friday afternoon.

According to a preliminary report, Kimberly Carter, 18. Was southbound on Arkansas Highway 9 attempting to overtake another vehicle when she lost control of the 2009 Chevrolet she was driving and the vehicle slid sideways into the northbound lane of traffic and into the path of a 2015 Jeep driven by Nascha James, 30, of Simsboro, La., that was northbound.

The Jeep hit the Chevrolet on the passenger side and Carter was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead at a Garland County Deputy Coroner.

James and a passenger in her vehicle, Kayden Guidry, 18, also of Simsboro, La., were injured and  taken to a hospital.

The accident was reported at 5:07 p.m. and the death was the 221st so far this year on the state’s highways.
