A 29-yard field goal by Texas State kicker Seth Keller careened off the right upright and through the goalposts with two seconds remaining, moving the Bobcats past the Arkansas State football team 16-13 at Bobcat Stadium.

Keller’s kick came after Dominic Zvada’s 23-yard field goal sailed through and tied the score up at 13-all for A-State (3-8, 1-6 SBC). However, a trio of complete passes and a penalty moved the Bobcats (4-8, 2-5) down to the Red Wolves’ 12. After a pair of timeouts, Keller’s kick was through, and A-State’s return unit was stopped on the kickoff return to end the contest.

Zvada drilled a pair of key field goals, including a career-long 56-yard kick midway through the third to give the Scarlet and Black a 10-3 advantage. It tied for the third longest in school history and was the longest by an A-State kicker since Bobby Zalud’s 56-yarder in 2011 versus Memphis.

Texas State outgained A-State 340-291, but the Red Wolves picked up 237 yards passing from James Blackman, who completed 22 of 40 passes with a score. Seydou Traore caught a team-high five passes for 49 yards, while Jeff Foreman (45 yards) and Johnnie Lang (35 yards) each snagged four, with Lang scoring. Daverrick Jenkins led in receiving yardage with 56 yards on three grabs – both career bests.

Melique Straker led all players with 14 tackles (12 solo) and a pair of sacks, while the Bobcats only got to Blackman once on the day.

Texas State struck first on its opening drive that ended in a 25-yard field goal by Keller, giving the Bobcats a 3-0 lead through one. The score remained until 24 seconds left in the half, when Blackman found Lang on a 26-yard pass to give A-State a 7-3 halftime edge.

Zvada’s 56-yard kick came with 7:05 to play in the third and gave the Red Wolves a 10-3 lead going into the fourth.

Texas State tied it at 10 early in the fourth when Lincoln Pare scored on a 2-yard rush, then reclaimed the lead on a 49-yard field goal by Keller with 3:17 remaining. On the kickoff, Lang returned the kick 37 yards to the TSU 41. Eight players later, Zvada drilled a 23-yard kick to tie it at 13 with 31 seconds to play.

With the ball on their own 32 with 26 seconds left, the Bobcats moved 45 yards in three plays, followed by a penalty late in the third play to spot the ball on the A-State 12. After a spike to stop the clock and a pair of called timeouts, Keller knocked through the eventual game-winning kick.

A-State returns home to conclude the 2022 season, hosting Troy on Saturday, Nov. 26. Kickoff from Centennial Bank Stadium is slated for 2 p.m. CT on ESPN+.
