A 21-year-old Pine Bluff man was arrested Saturday after police found a gun that had been reported stolen in a vehicle the man was in.

Nicholas Winston was taken into custody after police located the vehicle on Howard Drive which displayed a license plate that matched the license plate of a vehicle linked to a series of thefts from vehicles in White Hall Aug. 7.

According to an affidavit by White Hall Police Investigator Charles Treadway, the vehicle break-ins occurred on Nancy Street and among the items taken was a Glock Model-19 handgun. Security video showed the suspect vehicle and the license plate, which was entered into the law enforcement computer system.

On Saturday, police located the vehicle and while the driver ran from the scene, Winston remained and was found in the passenger seat. The stolen handgun was also found.

Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set a $5,000 bond for Winston after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge him with theft by receiving. He was told to come back to court Sept. 12.
