By a vote of 7-0, the Pine Bluff City Council on Monday approved a resolution authorizing an agreement with Union Pacific Railroad to reconstruct a railroad crossing downtown as part of the on-going streetscape project.
Council member Glen Brown Sr., left before the item was voted on.
After the meeting, Council member Bruce Lockett explained the resolution.
A proposed ordinance waiving competitive bidding and allowing the Parks Department to buy tractor and loaded for the Harbor Oaks Golf Course, that had been up for a first reading was also approved after council members voted to waive the rules and read the ordinance three times.
According to the ordinance, parks and rec located the equipment needed but needed to move quickly before the equipment could be sold to someone else. It went on to say that if parks and rec did not get the equipment, it could be three or four months before comparable equipment could be available.
Mayor Shirley Washington said the city has a goal of reopening the Harbor Oaks Golf Course over the Memorial Day weekend and the tractor loader is necessary to meet that goal.
