Operation Skyhook, presented by the Black Pilots of America and hosted at Pine Bluff’s Grider Field, is now underway following opening ceremonies held Friday morning.
Pilots from across the country are expected to fly in for the event that is held annually on Memorial Day Weekend, and a host of both city, county, and state representatives were on hand for Friday morning’s festivities to include Mayor Vivian Flowers, Sheriff Lafayette Woods, Jr., Senator Stephanie Flowers, and others. County Judge Gerald Robinson was not able to be in attendance due to a death in his family.
Following the ceremonies Mayor Vivian Flowers spoke with Deltaplex News about the event.
Airport manager Doug Hale told Deltaplex News that he and his staff look forward to hosting this event every year.
Black Pilots of America Operations Officer Ken Johnson is a Pine Bluff native and is heavily involved with Operation Skyhook. He also spoke with Deltaplex News about the event.
Johnson was surprised during opening ceremonies when it was revealed that this weekend is being hosted in his honor for his hard work and dedication to the event.
He also shared what visitors can expect at Grider Field this weekend.
