Sam Bridges Heird, Sr., 82
1942-2025

Sam Bridges Heird, Sr., 82, of Pine Bluff, was a loving husband, father and grandfather who loved his family, deer hunting and woodworking.

He passed away Friday, May 2, 2025, at home.

Sam was born June 20, 1942, in Pine Bluff, son of Joe William Heird and Mary Lucille Rogers Heird.

He was reared and received his early education at Dollarway schools. Sam and his friends grew up in Oakland Park and played in the park and the pool like it was their back yard. Even though Sam never went to college, he earned a Masters in sarcasm, shooting the bull very well whether it was with family or friends.

Sam worked for Central Moloney as a welder and machine operator for 27 years.

He was a passionate Christian and member of Watson Chapel Baptist Church.

Sam was a proud Master Mason and long-time member of the White Sulphur Lodge #122. He transferred his membership to the Jacob Brump Lodge #160.

He found great joy in having family around as much as possible, especially his great-grandsons.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Opal Maurine Lain Heird; two brothers, Joe Heird and Tommy Heird; and two sisters, Gertie Mae Simmons and Betty June Cole.

Survivors include two sons, Sammy Heird (Patty) and William Heird (Lisa); four grandchildren, Jessica Heird, Nick Heird (Abby), Hunter Heird and Seth Heird (Sarah); four great-grandchildren, Branan Heird, Dunkin Heird, Bridges Heird and Graham Heird; and one great-grandchild on the way, Grace Ellen Heird.

Visitation and viewing will begin at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at Watson Chapel Baptist Church with the funeral service to follow beginning at 2:00 p.m. with Brother Steve Monk officiating. Interment will follow in Fitzhugh Cemetery by Fuller Hale-South Funeral Services.
