Jacquelyn Layton Stuart, 88, of Pine Bluff, passed away Thursday, February 5, 2026.
Jacquelyn was born on March 10, 1937, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, daughter of Jack and Louise Morrison Layton. She graduated from Pine Bluff High School in 1955. After graduation she enrolled in Arkansas State University on a band/music scholarship. While there, she served as President of her sorority, Alpha Omicron Pi, Vice- President of the Senior Class and chosen for Who’s Who in American College and Universities.
In December of 1959, she married Galen Louie Stuart. During their 51 years of marriage, they lived on both coasts and several states in between before coming back to Pine Bluff in 1976. After graduating college, she mostly taught elementary school. In the 1980’s she went back to college, graduating with a master’s degree in information retrieval from the University of Central Arkansas. She was a Library Media Specialist in the Dollarway School District until her retirement in 1999.
The first years of Jacquelyn’s retirement consisted of flower gardening, learning computer genealogy, reading, and traveling.
Jacquelyn was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church, serving on the Vestry as Secretary, ECW President, Convention Delegate and in 2003 accepting the appointment of Historiographer. After organizing Trinity’s 150-year history, she wrote a hard cover, coffee table styled book of Trinity’s history. In 2009 she wrote a supplemental book in celebration of Trinity’s Sesquicentennial.
She was a member of The Jefferson County Genealogy Club, and the Bess Jenkins Club. Jacquelyn also served many years as a guild member of the Pine Bluff/Jefferson County Historical Museum.
Upon her move to Trinity Retirement Village in 2010, she became active in their planned activities and day trips. She especially enjoyed the water exercise classes, playing board games and working jig-saw puzzles in the lodge with other Trinity residents.
Mrs. Stuart was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Survivors include her sons, Arthur Stuart (Joy), Mark Stuart (Emily); grandsons, Adam Stuart and Josh Garrett; great grand grandchildren, Addison Stuart and Ava Garrett.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, February 11, 2026, in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson and Son with Father Jesse Reeves officiating. Burial will be private. Visitation will be Wednesday morning from 9:30 a.m. until service time at Robinson’s.
