Geneva Evelyn Scott Dawson, 77
1947-2025

"We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord." 2 Corinthians 5:8

On the morning of April 26, 2025, Geneva Evelyn Scott-Dawson, 77, was called home to be with our Heavenly Father. She was born December 4, 1947 in Pine Bluff. She is preceded in death by her parents Abe and Mary Fletcher Scott, sister Linda Marie Scott Tate and step-mother Pearl Roy Scott.

Geneva accepted Christ at an early age at Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. James E. McKissic. She received her formal education at St. Peter’s Catholic School and after graduating from Merrill High School in 1965, she attended Arkansas AM&N College (now UAPB) where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business and Finance Education. She taught Business at Sparkman High School in Sparkman, AR then returned to Pine Bluff and began working as a Customer Service and Sales Representative at Southwestern Bell Corporation (now AT&T). After a stellar career, she retired but remained active in the community. She worked as an Executive Assistant for Former Arkansas State Congressman Mike Ross, as an Administrative Assistant for Brown Funeral Home, and as a sales associate at Dillard’s. Geneva was formerly married to Freddie “Skip” Thomas and Cornelius “CW” Dawson.

Geneva had a beautiful singing voice and in her prime, you could hear her singing at Mt. Calvary or serving as a gospel announcer on KPBA, the local radio station, where she was a Gospel Angel. “Hold to God’s Unchanging Hand" is a song that reflects her strong faith identity. She loved her family dearly and was extremely proud of her nieces and nephews, who affectionately called her “AG” (short for Aunt Gen). She liked to travel, enjoyed being with people and was always ready for a good laugh. She encouraged her nieces and nephews to have fun, teaching them how to make their photos “pop”. Geneva was impressively tech savvy, keeping up with sports, politics, and pop culture both locally and nationally. Recently, she was a member of the Silver Steppers walking club where she was very encouraging to her peers.

Left to celebrate her life are two brothers, Don Lewis Scott of Ormond Beach, FL and Dennis Roy Scott (Carol) of Pine Bluff; three step-sisters, Janice Garry Williams, Felicia Garry Fisher, and Tammy Roy Johnson of Pine Bluff; her dedicated caretaker and nephew Vincent Paul Tate (Berna) of Pine Bluff; a niece who cared for her like a daughter Joy Lynette Tate Smith (Michael) of Snellville, GA; LeKita Scott Dawkins (Gary) of Minneapolis, MN; Terra Luster of Grand Prairie, TX; Shea Scott Bey (Brian) of Randolph, NJ; Denisha Scott of San Diego, CA; Jason Patrick Scott of Plainfield, NJ; another special loving and supportive niece, Katrina Tate of Pine Bluff; and an aunt, Josephine Adams of Pine Bluff. She will also be forever cherished by her four grandnieces, three grandnephews, three great-great nephews, one great-great niece, a host of cousins, and many other close relatives and friends.

The family is eternally grateful for the special assistance, care, comfort, and encouragement rendered by Ms. Charlotte Armstrong, Patricia Davis, Beverly Fletcher, and Curlee Dockett.
