Floy and Sonny were united in marriage on February 7, 1960, in Pine Bluff, AR, and during their 56 years together, they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and community. Floy attended Pine Bluff High School and went on to work for several local businesses, including Ben Pearson, Steed’s IGA, and Weingarten’s. The couple fulfilled their dream by opening the Trotline Inn Restaurant in White Hall, where Floy was the head cook and bookkeeper. Her passion for hospitality shone through as she and Sonny welcomed customers like family for 16 years. After closing the restaurant, Floy dedicated her time to the Arkansas Department of Corrections-Division of Correction, Pine Bluff Unit, in the kitchen and later in the commissary until her retirement.
Retirement was not an end but a new beginning for Floy and Sonny, who enjoyed transporting cars for Welch and Smart, taking in the open road together.
Floy was known for her unwavering dedication to her family. She celebrated every achievement of her daughters and was always present to support and encourage them, even when some of their antics involved playful pranks. She was known to ride bicycles, attempt skateboarding, and wrestle with her girls over control of the television. Her vivacious spirit and sense of adventure filled her home with joy and laughter.
An avid Arkansas Razorback fan, Floy was passionate about her team's games, and everyone learned quickly to avoid planning events or making phone calls during football or basketball games. Her love for the Razorbacks was a reflection of her spirited nature, and her enthusiasm will be missed by all who knew her.
Floy Jean Ferguson’s life was a testament to love, family, and community. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and unwavering support. Her presence will forever be felt in the hearts of those she touched, and her memory will be cherished by family and friends alike. As we remember Floy, we celebrate a life well-lived, filled with love and laughter. May she rest in peace, united with her loved ones who have gone before her.
