Evelyn Irons Merritt, 74 of Star City, passed away Friday, December 5, 2025 at her home surrounded by family. She was born January 22, 1951 in Hot Springs to the late Thomas Lee and Evelyn Pauline Irons.
Evelyn was a 1969 graduate of Mount Ida High School. She was a wonderful homemaker and also helped manage the family business. She enjoyed various forms of crafting, sewing, cooking, camping and fishing with family at Lake Ouachita.
After retiring from Burlington, she stayed home and spent most all of her time with her grandchildren, sharing with them her love for crafts, cooking and teaching them family traditions and life principals. She was a loving and nurturing wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband, David Noel Merritt, who she married January 17, 1970. Together they have two sons: Jay David Merritt (Rachel) and Jamie Merritt (Kristi) all of Star City. Evelyn is also survived by brother, Gerald Irons (April) and sister Venita Irons Leggett. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Tristen Merritt, Hannah Merritt Smith (Austin), Tera Merritt, Jaycee Merritt Rodgers (Tripp) and Jacob Merritt. As well as four great grandchildren: Izabella Merritt, Remmington Hudson, Stetson Faulkner and Banks Smith.
Visitation will be Tuesday, December 9, 2025 from 1:30 PM until graveside services start at 2:00 PM at Pleasant Springs Cemetery in Drew County. Pallbearers will be David Merritt, Jamie Merritt, Jacob Merritt, Tristen Merritt, Tripp Rodgers, Austin Smith, Steve Snow and Chuck Lanehart.
