Edith Spharler Bryant, 93, of Pine Bluff, devoted her life to Jesus as a wonderful Christian wife and mother who loved fishing, gardening, teaching Sunday School and playing the piano and organ in church. She ruled and reigned over the canasta table with her children and grandchildren.
She went to be with her Lord Friday evening, May 16, 2025, at home.
Edith Spharler was born August 29, 1931, at her family home in Jefferson County, daughter of Sylvester and Loula Edith McAdams Spharler.
She was reared and received her early education in Watson Chapel, graduating from Watson Chapel High School.
Edith Spharler started playing the organ and piano at the age of 13 and started teaching Sunday School at age 15. She used her gifts of playing music and teaching the Bible at Sulphur Springs Baptist Church before serving as a member of Salem Missionary Baptist Church for the last ten years. Edith taught a Women’s Bible Study until March of this year.
She loved helping people and was known for her witty comebacks.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Sherman Bryant; son Charles Anthony “Tony” Bryant; granddaughter, Mischelle Bryant Johnson; and siblings, Greta Ballew, Otto Spharler, Rhoda Tidwell, Troy Spharler, Erby Spharler and John Henry Spharler.
Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Huff (Jeff) and Cindy Bradley (Doug); one son, Sherman Michael Bryant (Elizabeth); sister, Tena Bond; ten grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, May 24, 2025, in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson and Son with funeral services following at 10:30 a.m. with her grandson, John Bradley, and son-in-law, Doug Bradley, officiating. Interment will follow in Good Faith Cemetery.
