Edgar Randolph "Coach" Spencer was born on July 26, 1955, to the late Robert & Elizabeth Spencer in Lacey, AR. He transitioned on May 11, 2025, at The Woods Nursing Home in Monticello, AR.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Robert (Carrin) Spencer of Monticello, AR, Edward Spencer of Lacey, AR & Rev. Nelson (Lucy) Spencer of Monticello, AR; a nephew, James Spencer of Monticello, AR; a niece of Monticello, AR and a great-great nephew. He attended Lacey School and went on to graduate from Drew Central High School. Edgar furthered his education by attending the University of Arkansas at Monticello where he received a bachelor’s degree in health & physical education.
He began his coaching career at Selma School. He later began teaching Health Education and coaching for Drew Central School District for over 30 years. He refereed many games all over Southeast Arkansas and also drove the school bus for Drew Central School District. He was a member of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Lacey, AR where he taught Sunday School for many years. His hobbies include farming, fishing, bowling, and going on cruises.
He leaves to cherish his memories, nephews, Darron (Shirley) Spencer of Monticello, Roger (Sandra) Spencer of Wilmar, Robert Spencer, III of Sierra Vista, AZ, Fredrick Dobie Spencer of Perth, AUS, Reginald (Rita) Spencer of Crossett, Fredrick Spencer of Pine Bluff & Arnett Spencer of Pine Bluff; nieces, Sharon Spencer of Anchorage, AK, Gwendolyn (David) Queen of Upper Marlboro, MD, Barbara Smith (Will) of Monticello, Brenda (Oscar) Greene of Monticello, Cynthia (Russell) Norris of Benton; a host of great and great-great nieces and nephews; along with numerous friends and children who attended Drew Central.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Chapel. There will be a Wake from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lacey Cemetery.
