1964-2026
Donald Ray Sowers was born on February 29, 1964, in Dumas, Arkansas, to the late R.J. Sowers Sr. and Mary Sowers. He departed this life on April 16, 2026, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
Donald received his education in the Dumas and Gould Public School Districts and later served in the Army National Guard. He spent many years working as a farmer. At an early age, he confessed a hope in Christ at Thomas Chapel Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor A.J. Hall.
Affectionately known as “Don-Big Country” he was a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan. If there was one thing you could always count on, it was talking to him about “Them Boys.” He also enjoyed cooking and entertaining. Don was a fun-loving individual who brought joy to those around him and will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, R.J. Sowers Sr. and Mary L. Sowers; three brothers, Larry Harrison, Wayne Harrison, and Charles Hickmon; and one sister, Margaret McMiller.
He leaves to cherish his memory two children, Dontae Sowers of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, and Lasmine (Jacobi) Furlow of El Dorado, Arkansas; three brothers, R.J. Sowers Jr. of McGehee, Arkansas, Roderick (Angela) Sowers of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, and Kenneth Sowers of Reno, Nevada; three sisters, Betty (Verl) Hancock of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Arutha White and Bobbie Rainey, both of Gould, Arkansas; a niece/sister; Stephanie Reed of Gould, Arkansas; seven grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
