1952-2026
Dan Smith, 73, of White Hall, Arkansas, went to be with the Lord on June 25, 2026. He was born in Camden to John and Vera Jane Murray Smith. During the Vietnam War, he joined the United States Army.
Dan worked at the Pine Bluff Arsenal (PBA) for over 30 years. He retired from PBA as an Engineering Technician in the Quality Management Division. After retirement, Dan enjoyed having lunch with a few of his fellow PBA retirees. They started calling themselves Retired Old Men Eating Out (ROMEOs). As time went on, Dan gathered additional names of retirees and invited them to the luncheons. He became the unofficial "social director." His retiree luncheons often involved over 30 people.
Dan loved to be outdoors, especially in the early morning. Weather permitting, he would start his days outdoors watching the sun rise and drinking his coffee. He also enjoyed camping and hiking in the Arkansas Ozarks. At home, Dan loved to garden and tend to his birds. He especially enjoyed watching the Carolina Wrens and the hummingbirds. At other times, Dan could be found working on his friends' computers.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents; by a brother, Steve Smith; and by his sisters, Charlotte Ann Cox, and Adele Marie Carrizosa. Survivors include a brother, John Smith (Melinda) of Arcadia, California; and his partner in life, Deborah Miller, along with many other good friends.
A Memorial service will be held July 7, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., at Robinson & Fuller White Hall Chapel. Burial will be private.
