The McGehee City Council at their recent meeting heard concerns about water quality and the need for legal dumping areas.

According to the McGehee Dermott Times-News, McGehee Water Department Supervisor Ronnie Blackmon told the council that there had been a problem with one of the wells that has since been corrected. He was responding to questions from Mayor Jeff Owyoung who said he had received complaints about cloudy drinking water, especially on the north side of the city.

Water officials also said the oily film in the water was a biodegradable food oil that is not harmful to humans.

On the subject of dumping sites, the newspaper reported that Council Member Leroy Hood said illegal dumping of furniture and household good has been occurring at the Sherwood and Oak Grove dumpsters. The county landfill is outside the city limits of McGehee and closes at 4 p.m. The council agreed to consider the idea of creating a central location where residents can dump large items.
