Authorities are investigating a shooting involving a 15-year-old boy who was injured early Saturday morning in Hensley.

According to information confirmed by Saline County officials, the shooting occurred around 5:30 a.m. at a location off South Springlake Road. The teen was transported for medical treatment and remains in the intensive care unit, officials said.

Initial reports suggested the shooting may have been connected to a party on Springlake Road where gunshots were also reported. However, investigators later clarified that the teen involved in the shooting had left that location prior to being injured and was not shot at the Springlake Road party.

Witnesses told investigators the shooting appears to have been self-inflicted. According to those accounts, the teen was allegedly handling or “playing with” a firearm when it discharged.

Witnesses also stated the injured teen was placed into a vehicle by others at the scene and transported to a nearby gas station, where he was dropped off. Authorities were then contacted, and emergency responders arrived shortly thereafter.

Saline County authorities confirmed they are handling the investigation.
