The Island Of Hope Chapel at the Tucker Unit in rural Jefferson County is one of 11 properties in the state to be added to the National Register of Historic Places.  The chapel, which is currently undergoing renovation, was built in 1969 and designed by architech Raymond Blanton. The unusual shape makes it a unique example of modern architecture. Also being added is the Cummins Prison Chapel in Lincoln, County, which was built in the mid 70’s, the Magnesia Springs Campground in Magnolia, and the Velda Rose Tower Motor Hotel in Hot Springs. Financial assistance for refurbishing almost always comes with being added to the registry.
