A former bank building in Sheridan could be the new home of the Grant County Library.
According to the Sheridan Headlight newspaper, the Quorum Court conducted a special session last week where they talked about the former US Bank building at 101 N. Oak St.
The newspaper reported that the current library, located at 210 N. Oak St., has outgrown its current building.
County Judge Randy Pruitt said there were advantages to buying the existing building versus building a new library building.
The library owns land and had planned to build a new building before the COVID-19 Pandemic. He said the county could recoup by selling the current building and land.
According to the newspaper, the square footage of the bank building is more than double the current library’s size and the upstairs could be used for offices and storage. Current offices could be used as study rooms.
The purchase price of the bank was $600,000 which was approved with an additional $10,000 added to cover closing costs and other expenses.
