Fire and Emergency Chief Shawn Howell appeared During the Oldies 101.3 Morning Show, Friday, November 5th, and spoke about ordering a fire truck to fulfill their department need and daylight savings time.
In regards to the purchase of a new fire truck, Howell explained more details about the need, funding, and purchasing process.
Howell explained that 2012 was the last time the department purchased three fire trucks and stated, “At that time we had nine, what I call front line fire trucks, so we really need to get in a rotation where we are not having to buy them all at the same time”. He said that what they need most is a ladder truck that costs 1.6 million and has a 3% increase for 2022. This means that the longer they wait to purchase the more expensive the price will be.
Howell also stated that he has not had any pushback from the city council but he is pushing for the purchase to be made as soon as possible.
On another subject, Daylight Savings Time starts Sunday, November 7th, and Howell gave some tips for preparation.
