Eight members of the Jefferson County Quorum Court met Monday to override a veto of a policies and procedures ordinance passed by the same eight JP’s last month by County Judge Gerald Robinson.
The eight JP’s in attendance were Reginald Adams, Melanie Johnson Dumas, Margarette Williams, Richard Victorino, Alfred Carrol, Reginald Johnson, and Cedric Jackson.
Justice Roy Agee informed the eight in attendance that he could not make it due to a family situation, while Ted Harden, Patricia Royal Johnson, Jimmy Fisher, and Conley Byrd were no shows. Jefferson County Judge Gerald Robinson was also not in attendance for the meeting.
Justice Alfred Carrol spoke with Deltaplex News saying they only had enough JP’s on hand to override the veto, but not enough to conduct any other business.
The meeting was originally cancelled by Robinson, citing unforeseen circumstances in an email sent out on April 4, but the eight justices decided to hold a meeting after receiving guidance from Prosecuting Attorney Kyle Hunter saying the meeting was not properly canceled.
Carroll added that he believes the public was properly notified of the meeting while proper notification of the cancellation was not made.
No other business could be conducted at the meeting after the JP’s overturned the veto due to the lack of at least nine JP’s being in attendance.
