An increase in the price that Drew County pays for how it gets rid of its trash was discussed at the recent meeting of the County Quorum Court Monday.
According to the Advance Monticellonian newspaper, County Judge Robert Akin said the county had been paying $32 a ton at the Ashley County landfill but that price has increased to $80 per ton. He said the county averages 235 tons of garbage a month which costs the county $90,240. With the increase, the price would go to $225,000.
Akin said to avoid the excess charges, the county will “piggy back” on the city, with a handling fee which he described as “fair.”
He said the county rate will increase from $7,500 a month to around $11,600 a month with the agreement with the city.
