The Drew County Quorum Court voted last week to pay for the installation of electronic locks on the doors of the courtroom.
Judge Rober Gibson requested the locks, saying that the design of the courthouse makes it impossible to place bailiffs at every door due to manpower shortages.
The Advance Monticellonian newspaper reported that the locks will cost $6,560.67.
The court also approved an appropriation ordinance to pay for repairs to two road graders and one backhoe costing $75,000 and $20,000 to repair sewer drainage pipes at the jail.
An appropriation ordinance of $25,000 was also approved to open five new cells at the landfill area, each of the five will cost $5,000.
