The Pine Bluff City Council is expected to vote soon on legislation changing the name of a section of Highway 63 to Saracen Resort Drive.

During a meeting of the council’s Traffic and Aviation Committee Tuesday, Larry Reynolds, who is the regional planner said the request to change the name came from the Arkansas Department of Transportation on behalf of the casino.

Reynolds said there is currently no mention of the casino from the south and west and people are turning left onto East Harding Avenue, then having to reroute around. Traffic counts by the highway department from Little Rock are “pretty high” by department standards.

The renaming would begin at the traffic light and run to the roundabout that leads into Saracen Resort Drive and onto casino property.

Reynolds said the Office of Emergency Management, which deals will 911 addressing said they have no problem with the change and to avoid confusion you could add Saracen Casino Resort Drive or East Saracen Casino Resort Drive.

The committee, council members Joni Alexander, Ivan Whitfield and Glen Brown Jr. voted to send the proposal to the council with a do pass recommendation.
