Following a lengthy meeting Monday night, the Pine Bluff City Council voted to allow Mayor Shirley Washington to terminate the lease agreement between the city and the current owners of the Harbor Oaks Golf Course and associated properties.

That lease is currently held by Michael and Jamie Wilson, who has had the lease and managed the golf course, restaurant, and pro shop since Aug. 2016 when they acquired it from the original leaseholder, D.A. Thomas Enterprises.

The vote to terminate the lease was 5 to 3 with council members Bruce Lockett, Steven Mays, and Glen Brown Sr., voting no. After the meeting, Lockett explained his vote to Deltaplex News.

According to the resolution, the 2019 flood did serious damage to the property, causing the loss of the irrigation system and making the clubhouse and restaurant unusable.

It went on to say that the Wilson’s are no longer financially capable of continuing to hold the lease.
