Arkansas is one of the first state’s in the country to install wrong-way detection sensors. It’s an effort to try and curb the number of collisions that are a result of drivers traveling the wrong way down 1-40. Dave Parker from ARDOT said the project will cost just under $55 million dollars. The sensors will be equipped with flashing lights to notify and warn drivers, but will also alert law enforcement. Cameras will tell law enforcement which type of car is being driven and where the wrong-way driving is taking place. Parker said investing in the system was necessary after seeing an uptick in wrong-way crashes across several states.
