A day after five members of the Pine Bluff City Council voted to allow Living Grace First Ward Food Pantry to use the former fire station on Commerce Road, Council member Joni Alexander appeared on the Oldies 1013 morning show to talk about that vote.

The food pantry is operated by Debra Allen and Alexander spoke specifically about her.

She said every time the council does something like allowing a non-profit to use city property, it sets a precedent but the difference in this case is that the city was the one responsible for Allen having to move from her current location.

Alexander went on to say that Council member Lloyd Holcomb Jr.,, who presided over the meeting in the absence of Mayor Shirley Washington, was powerless to prevent the resolution from being considered because only the sponsor, in this case Council member Ivan Whitfield, could pull the resolution from the agenda.

In addition to Alexander, Council members Glen Brown Jr., and Steven Shaner voted no.
