Hooten’s Classic Luncheon Kicks Off High School Football Season in Jefferson County

PINE BLUFF, AR — Football season officially took center stage as the Pine Bluff West Rotary Club hosted the annual Hooten’s Arkansas Football Classic Luncheon, bringing together coaches, players, and community members from Pine Bluff, Watson Chapel, White Hall as well as other high schools in the Deltaplex area to celebrate the start of the 2026 high school football season.
The annual event served as a preseason showcase for three of Jefferson County’s premier football programs, giving each coaching staff an opportunity to preview their teams, discuss offseason progress, and share expectations for the upcoming campaign.
Pine Bluff High School Head Coach Micheal Williams, who was recently reinstated, expressed confidence that the Zebras are ready to build upon last year’s successes. Williams highlighted the team’s experience, athleticism, and determination to compete for conference honors while continuing the school’s rich football tradition.
Watson Chapel High School and fourth year head coach Steven Heard also used the luncheon to showcase their excitement for the upcoming season. Coach Heard praised the team’s offseason commitment in the weight room and summer workouts, noting that the program has embraced a culture of hard work and resilience heading into fall camp.
Jason Mitchell returns as the White Hall Head Coach, discussing the Bulldogs’ preparations and expectations. He pointed to veteran leadership, a strong returning core, and an enthusiastic group of young players who are eager to contribute as the Bulldogs look to make another postseason run.
The Hooten’s Classic Luncheon has become a longstanding tradition across Arkansas, providing communities with an opportunity to celebrate high school football while recognizing the dedication of student-athletes and coaches. Beyond wins and losses, the event highlights the positive impact football has on developing leadership, teamwork, and character among young athletes.
The Pine Bluff West Rotary Club once again played a key role in organizing the event, continuing its commitment to supporting local schools and fostering community involvement through athletics.
As the luncheon concluded, one message was clear from every program in attendance: the countdown to football season is over, and Jefferson County is ready for another exciting year of Arkansas high school football.
