Betty Hickerson McClanahan, 88
1937-2026

Betty June Gibbs Hickerson McClanahan, age 88, of Pine Bluff, passed away unexpectedly on June 10, 2026. She was born October 7, 1937, in Lake Village, AR, daughter of Grover and Eunice Lewis Gibbs. Betty moved with her family to a farm in Sherrill. She attended Pine Bluff High School, where she was a cheerleader.

Betty was a devoted Christian and member of the Hazel St. Church of Christ.

After devoting much of her early adult life to her church and family, Betty began her career at The Outrigger specialty shop, where she quickly earned a reputation for great sales and a great eye for finding things her customers would love by going to market. After managing The Outrigger for many years, she worked for Dillard’s, often making Pacesetter, until she retired. Betty was an amateur nutritionist, who shunned refined sugar and processed foods before it became standard medical advice.

Along with her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husbands, Robert Hickerson (43 yrs, then widowed) and Robert McClanahan (18 yrs, then widowed); her sisters, Marie Derden, Ann Harrison, Caryl Adams; brother, Danny Gibbs; and grandson, Russell Danielson.

 

Survivors include her children, Robin Hickerson, Lance (Leah) Hickerson, Charlotte Hickerson, and Scarlett Burroughs. She leaves behind three granddaughters, Brittany (Dan) Oaks, Madison Harper, and Dru (Chase) Sanders. In addition, Betty leaves eight great-grandchildren, Rowan Pore, Noomi Danen, Connor Oaks, Wesley Oaks, Kate Sanders, Cecilia Sanders, Samantha Sanders and Flynn Sanders; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, June 13, 2026 in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson and Son with a funeral service following the visitation at 10:30 a.m., with Mr. Lee Elkins officiating. Interment will follow in Graceland Cemetery.

The family would like to thank Dr. Timmothy Reece and his staff for their loving care of our mother for the last 20 years, and especially on the last day of her life.
