Rison Varsity Wildcats Defeats McGehee in Pitcher’s Duel

Rison, AR-Both teams were strong on the hill Tuesday, but the Rison Wildcats defeated McGehee 3-2. Noah Matheson got the starting nod for Rison and recorded 21 outs for the Wildcats.

Matheson struck out 17 batters on the day, while allowing only a single hit, three walks, and two runs in seven innings of work.

McGehee struck first with a ground out by Drake Brown in the first inning to give the Owls a 1-0 lead. A sacrifice fly by Matheson in the bottom of the third inning tied the game at one. The Wildcats would regain the lead with a McGehee error in the bottom of the fifth 2-1.

Rison would return the favor, committing an error in the top of the seventh inning to tie the game back up at 2-2. The Wildcats scored in the bottom of the seventh for a 3-2 win.

Drake Brown took the loss for McGehee, striking out 10 while allowing only one hit with ten strike outs, walking two and giving up two runs(one earned run) in six innings. Welcjer led McGehee with an RBI, while Snow went 1-3 at the plate to lead the Owls.

Trent Sutherland lead the way for the Cats, going 1-3 on the day. Matheson finished with an RBI in the win.
