Mamie Dee Barnes Stringfellow, 82 of Monticello, passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at Bell View Estates Nursing and Rehab. She was born July 7, 1944, in Halley, AR to the late Chennault Dunemn and Myrtle Flora Minchew Dunemn.
Mamie was a Christian and of Baptist Faith. Mamie graduated High School with honors. Mamie worked at Burlington while raising two children and later at Crackerbox and Johnson’s Furniture. If you knew Mamie, you knew she was a sewing Queen. She could sew anything! Mamie was well versed in the Bible and an avid reader of not just novels, but History was a favorite subject of hers. Mamie liked to fish and was a master at gardening. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her determination kept her going even after several setbacks. She did not let this keep her down (she had things to sew) She made a lot of friends while living at the Ridgeway apartments and Bell View Nursing Center who cherished her and she them. She was very fond of her caretakers Bobby, Angie, Theresa, Kaylee, Amber, Tashely, Nya. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by Husband James Barnes, two Brothers Jerry Lynn and Ray Andrew Dunemn, one sister Lucy Magnolia Dunemn, Daughter Angela Kay Barnes, Daughter Twila Renee Barnes (Henry)
Survived by: One Son Tim Barnes (Emily) of Hattiesburg MS, Four Niece’s Gloria Tatum of MS, Vonda Dunemn Colburn of Monticello, Anita Dunemn Walker (Paul) of Monticello, Cindy Dunemn of Little Rock, Six Grandchildren; Joshua and Laura Beth Lloyd, TJ, Chet, Savannah, and Lyla Jean Barnes. Six Great Grandchildren; David, Jaxon, Twyla, Jessie, McKenzy, Elijah and a whole host of great Nieces and Nephews, two (sisters)-in-law’s Freda Dunemn-Graham and Lois Dunemn-Kellum.
Visitation from 5-7 Pm, Friday April 10, 2026, at Griffin Funeral Home. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, April 11, 2026, at Rose Hill Cumberland Presbyterian cemetery 2133 AR-83, Monticello, AR., with Bobby Whitlock officiating.
