Verna Louell Edwards, 96
1929-2026

Verna Louell Chambliss Edwards, 96, of Star City, Arkansas went to be with the Lord on March 20, 2026. Born October 30, 1929, in the Mountain Home Community south of Star City, a daughter to the late Levi Joseph Chambliss and Willie Mason Wimberly Chambliss. When she was only three weeks old her mother passed away. She was raised by her stepmother, the only mother she ever knew, the late Muriel M. Raley Chambliss. Verna Lou grew up in the Mountain Home Community near Star City. She attended school at Mountain Home and then Star City High School graduating in 1949.

On March 18, 1950, she married Thomas “Buddy” Leonard Edwards, Jr at the Presbyterian Church in Star City. Together they had three daughters, and shared sixty-eight years of life, love and memories until his passing, July 18, 2018. She was a dedicated wife, homemaker, and mother, attending her daughters’ activities and school functions.

Verna Lou was a loving and kind Christian woman. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Star City. She loved her church and served actively. She was always helping anyone in need. She believed “It’s more blessed to give than to receive” and showed it in her life throughout the years. After her husband’s passing, Verna Lou moved to Dalton’s Place Assisted Living where she continued an active life. She enjoyed visiting with fellow residents and friends. She spent her time writing letters and keeping in touch with friends and relatives.

Also preceding her in death are her husband, Buddy Edwards, brothers; Troy, Joe, James, and Carrol Chambliss, and sisters, Carolyn Lott and Margie Berry; and a grandson, Jamie Rochelle.

She is survived by her daughters, Tommie Lou Howsen (Larry) of Warren, Linda Sue Rochelle (Dave) of Star City, and Sharon Annette Spencer of London, AR, her six grandchildren; Sean Rochelle (Caroline), Steven Howsen (Maggie), Brandon Rochelle (Crystal), Bridget Rose (Danny), Ashley Coy (Chad), and Amy Hunt, sixteen great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren; along with a host of extended family members and friends.

Visitation will be Monday, March 23, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Griffin Funeral Service in Star City with the funeral following at 2:00 PM with Bro. Dwayne Roper officiating. Burial will be in Mountain Home Cemetery.
