Tommie Evelyn McCarthy Brabston, age 86, of Pine Bluff, passed away Friday, February 27, 2026.
Born March 4, 1939 at Pine Bluff, Evelyn was a daughter of the late Thomas Francis McCarthy and Ruth Johnson McCarthy. She graduated from Pine Bluff High School in 1957 and was active in every class reunion through the years.
A lifelong member of Hawley Memorial United Methodist Church, she had filled virtually every position/office in the church. Choir director, organist, pianist, volunteer church secretary, United Methodist Women, Sunday school teacher, and youth worker. Evelyn also held a weekly bible study at Trinity Village for many years and was a longtime volunteer for the American Red Cross.
She married Billy Ragan Brabston on February 7, 1959 at Pine Bluff. He preceded her in death on October 24, 2013. She was also predeceased by two sisters, Frances Meiggs and Kathryn Jackson.
Survivors include her daughters, Virginia Brabston Robinson (Mark), Barbara Brabston Kirkpatrick (Rev. Daniel) of Sheridan, and Carolyn Brabston Gunn (Jerry) of Maumelle; two grandchildren, Matthew Kirkpatrick of Silver Spring, Maryland and Catherine Kirkpatrick of Little Rock; a brother, T. F. “Buddy” McCarthy of Bastrop, Louisiana; two sisters, Mary Taylor of Conway and Elizabeth Kuhn of Tucson, Arizona; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Evelyn’s memorial service will be held Tuesday, March 3, 2026, 2:00 p.m. at Hawley Memorial United Methodist Church. The family will greet friends after the service.
